Great interview! Thanks for posting it, Zach. I'm definitely reading Steele's book.
Christian Bok, and other ersatz 'experimentalists', take note:
"And I believe that our modern obsession with technical novelty is misguided, based as it is on a confusion of the methods of literature with those of the physical sciences. Whereas science often advances by refinements of apparatus, literature mostly stays new and vital not by technical innovation but by our responding feelingly and intelligently to the ever-changing moral, social, and political conditions in which we live."
