Wonderful essay. I spent part of my childhood living on Matsqui prairie with the river idling by and remember its dark and sullen presence. Every now and then my dad would take us to the river to see someone standing with a sturgeon -- those dinosaurs that supposedly undermined the footings of the old Mission bridge. Highly recommend Stephen Hume's recent book on Simon Fraser for a sense of the river and its history....
