Not really bizarre. It just shows what RS basically is: a smug snob. He, as an enlightened postmodern, understands what real poetry is and those benighted premodern trogs who quote Creeley and Padgett and find comfort and emotional stimulation in verse are not only fools, but, because unenlightened and unprogressive--decadent?--complicit in the greatest political evils we know. Ironically, it's a remarkably Bolshevist stance.
